School integration in Omaha

There was a very interesting article in the Chicago Tribune today about Omaha's attempts to face issues of race and school integration. They even considered segregation as the answer!

This ongoing story is very fascinating. Interestingly, the folks pushing for the segregated schools were largely African-Americans.
The idea was that funding would be equal (between suburban and urban). I have to admit, I'm optimistic urban schools could compete, whether segregated or not, if funding was equal.

I read last week in the Tribune that Naperville now has professional quality workout centers in their elementary and middle schools. What an advantage those schools have over those here in Chicago.
