Urban Farming - Will Allen

I am really interested in doing urban farming in East Garfield Park. As Will Allen says in this NY Times magazine article, there are 77,000 vacant lots in Chicago. One out of every three lots in East Garfield Park is vacant. The time for urban farming is now. Let me know if you want to be included in the planning task force.

I'M IN!..reading Omnivore's Delight, which I pikd up in Chgo, thinking it was something lite..ha! I am still so naive..it confirms just how wacked our American food chain is!..I love this concept & wud love to go vist this place!.. I refuse to buy a house w/ a fence in Chgo..it does not promote community!! This guy gets a lot in a big way!!

Arloa... You may remember me from i.c.stars... You came in and spoke to my cycle and I about your life, your connections to the future and also a bit about breakthrough... I wanted to schedule a lunch or coffee with you...

I have some great projects in the works and I think understanding your story a bit more will help me discover...

My email is cboyd@icstars.org

One of the farmer's from Omnivore's Dilemma, Joel Salatin, is also featured in Food, Inc (playing at landmark still, i think).

He's a super inspirational guy who marches to the beat of his own drum.. check out this video of him here: http://tiny.cc/38GRZ

I too would love to help bring more community gardens to Chicago.

Arloa,

Im very excited about this project, let me know when and if you need help. I also would be happy to contact some of the organic farmers in Indiana that would have some great knowledge. My email is krista.kane01@gmail.com

I'm very interested in gardening and urban farming as a way for people to raise their own food. I'd like to be included.

I always think that this project would be a great thing for kids in the neighborhood to put their time/efforts into. I tried to get our alderman (e. smith) to let me use an empty lot across from us for a similar project, but never heard back. I just think the kids who come by our house every day (and obviously, for you guys, the kids in E. Garfield) would love to have something like this to work on. Anyway, I could get into this if you still are looking for helpers. Matt keeps telling me: "you should do this! Arloa wants to do a garden thing!" Haha.
